I’m starting something new and regularly posting about products I love. As a professional product developer for the better part of two decades, I’m an enormous fan of well-designed products that improve our lives. I don’t take paid endorsements for products and I’ll only be posting about products that I personally use.

Though I more regularly post about sustainability and creative and philanthropic endeavors, what you may not know is that I’m a huge finance nerd. I have an MBA and worked in banking soon after I graduated from business school at the height of the recession from 2008–2012. So, first up is the American Express high yield savings account.

I thought there was a time term to the account but I learned today that there isn’t. There are two small catches to consider: 1.) it can take a business day to access the funds because they don’t have physical branches; and 2.) you have to have it connected to another bank account to fund it and make withdrawals. Other than that, the higher interest rate is totally worthwhile at 4.15% right now. I also love that it is connected to my credit card account so it’s all accessible in one simple log-in. However, you don’t need to have an Amex card to open a high yield savings account with them. Anyone can open one.

You may think I’m a bit biased because I worked for Amex for 4 years and my Amex card was my first credit card from way back in my college days at University of Pennsylvania. And you’d be right. I’m very biased toward Amex because of the exceptional service and because they always look out for their cardmembers.

I opened up my high yield savings account with them today in less than 60 seconds online. You can, too, at americanexpress.com/savenow.
